MyStrides LLC started with a story much like yours. We aren\u2019t just professionals; we are parents who have walked this path for decades.\n\n

Where We Started

\n\nWhen our daughter was 21 months old, a severe illness changed everything. She suffered multiple strokes and a brain injury. In that moment, our lives shifted. We had to learn how to navigate a new world of doctors, therapies, and advocacy.\n\nWe didn\u2019t just want her to \"get by\"\u2014we wanted her to thrive. To make that happen, we dedicated our lives to learning everything we could about the developmental disability community.\n\n

Our Experience

\n\nWe\u2019ve spent years turning our personal journey into professional expertise to help families like yours:\n\n

Host Home Care: We have spent years welcoming individuals into our home, providing \"person-centered\" care that focuses on what the individual actually wants and needs.\n\n

Transition Coaching: Patience spent over eight years with Adams 12 Five Star Schools. She supported students to prepare for the big leap from the classroom to adult life; she coached and mentored the students at jobs sites and recreation.\n\n

Deep Caregiving: Both Jonnie and Patience have worked hand-in-hand to build relationships based on dignity, respect, and the understanding that every person deserves to be heard.\n\n

Where We Are Now

\n\nToday, our daughter is in her 30's. Not only is she doing well, but she has become an advocate herself, helping others in the disability community. She is living proof that with the right support, incredible things are possible.\n\n

      \u201cPatience embodies the values that I would look for in someone providing care for my loved\none. She demonstrates empathy, patience and has a demeanor that I find approachable and\nauthentic. Her demeanor is kind and gentle, yet she demonstrates strength of spirit and firm\nboundaries when needed. In working with a young man who is non-verbal and can have\ndifficulty attending to activities and tasks without support, it is clear to see that he trusts her\nand checks in with her throughout an activity that he might otherwise not be successful with.\nShe prompts him to be as independent as possible, encourages him to make social connections\nand helps him access community opportunities that all people have a right to enjoy.\u201d <\/p>

        Jonnie\u2019s illustrious and elaborate professional career is evident to all who know him, because of\nhis many notable accomplishments. As a father and husband, he is very dedicated to his\nbeautiful family. He is very passionate and experienced in his care and advocacy for persons\nwith intellectual and developmental disability as his angelic daughter is a person with\ndevelopmental disability. As a man of faith, Jonnie\u2019s ideas and philosophies of life are anchored\nin his belief system of empathy, peace, selflessness and justice. <\/p>

          \u201cAs a Transition Services Coach, Patience worked with students 18 to 21 years of age, with a variety of disabilities. Disabilities ranged from students having significant needs to moderate needs. She helped more impacted students with personal hygiene, feeding, mobility and supervision needs in the classroom as well as in the community. She also worked with students that were working on more independent work, living, community access and social needs while in the community.\nPatience was responsible for teaching job readiness skills while in the community with groups of 2 to 4 students. She would use appropriate levels of prompting while fading support, helping students to become more independent. She also worked with 4 to 6 students at a time helping them to learn how to access the community and engage with their peers during recreational\nactivities.\u201d <\/p>

            Jonnie and I have known each other since 2015 having first met when he was serving as the chaplain in the Northwest camp of the Gideons International where I was the treasurer. A friendship quickly grew and continued outside our work in the ministry. As chaplain, Jonnie was very well respected by the membership as he is a skilled speaker and a compassionate listener in meeting their individual needs.\nIn addition to his full-time job, he and his wife, Patience, worked in adult care close to five years and in that time, I was able to see the care and compassion they extended to their clients. <\/p>
